by George Way, Scholastic Coaches Director Today’s Wrestling Landscape This article highlights current statistics concerning where we are today in our sport. The information provided will offer some insight into the current health of scholastic and collegiate wrestling in our country. Scholastic Girls: With Kentucky recently adding a girls championship, there are now 38 states that have sanctioned a state championship for girls. There are a few more with a status of “emerging sport,” so hopefully, next year (2023-24), we may finally exceed 40 states with official girl’s championships. There are currently over 50,000 scholastic girl’s participating in approximately 3,000 schools....
