NWCA Scholastic Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year
The NWCA would like to take this time to announce its annual award winners for Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year for the 2019 wrestling season. Award winners are selected on the state level, and then state winners are voted on at the regional level. The national winners are selected from the pool of eight regional winners across each of the categories.
ALABAMA
2018 alabama nwca scholastic coach of the year
Coach Mayfield of Cleburne County High School (AL) was presented Head Coach of the Year award by Alabama state chair, Shawn Weltzin. Coach Mayfield coached 9 Individual State Champions, 15 State Finalists, 32 Individual State Placers, 50+ State Qualifiers, and hundreds of dedicated athletes in his 11 yrs. as the Head Coach at Cleburne County High School. Career Record:172-63.
2018 alabama nwca scholastic assistant coach of the year
Scott Peavey of Cleburne County High School (NC) was presented Assistant Coach of the Year award by Alabama state chair, Shawn Weltzin. Coach Peavy was one of the state’s best head coaches. He won the 1-5a North Sectional each of the three previous years before coming to Oxford. He was state runner up in 2015. In addition to that, he built the programs at Ashville and Madison County from scratch. He has been an advocate for the sport for 20+ years, and there could not be a better choice.

2018 NORTH CAROLINA Scholastic Coach of the Year
Jason Lanning of Lake Norman High School(NC) was presented Head Coach of the Year award at the NC State Tournament on February 17, 2018.

Bobby Shriner of Orange High School (NC) was presented Assistant Coach of the Year award at the NC State Tournament on February 17, 2018.
