NWCA Announces the NCAA Division II Men’s 2023 Wrestler of the Year Finalists

Manheim, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year finalists for the 2022-23 season, as voted on by the coaches of NCAA Division II.

Super Region 1’s finalist is Eric Bartos of Mercyhurst. The Laker senior wrapped up his career as a four-time NCAA National Qualifier and two-time All-American with a fourth-place finish at 133 pounds. He closed out his season with a record of 31-4, and was also the Super Region 1 Champion at 133.

Logan Hall of Lander is the finalist from Super Region 2. Hall, also a senior, closed out the season as the National Runner-up at 184 pounds at the NCAA Division II National Championships in his second trip to Nationals. He posted a season record of 31-4 after being the Super Region 2 Champion and the Mountain East Champion at 184.

From Super Region 3 the Division II Wrestler of the Year finalist is 141 pound National Champion Zackary Donathan of Tiffin. The junior posted a record of 13-1 en route to the NCAA Division II National Championship after taking the Super Region 3 championship as well. Donathan also earned the pins award at the NCAA Championship.

Super Region 4’s finalist is also a National Champion, in Shawn Streck of Central Oklahoma. The junior heavyweight ran through a perfect season with a record of 26-0, winning NCAA Super Region 4 Championship and an NCAA Division II National Championship. He was also named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Year.

Nick Novak of St. Cloud State is the Super Region 5 finalist. The National Champion at 157 pounds, Novak also posted a perfect season with a record of 27-0. The sophomore was also the 157 champion in Super Region 5, and is also a two-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic honoree and a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American.

Josiah Rider of Adams State rounds out the finalists, coming from Super Region 6. The NCAA Division II National Champion at 149 pounds, Rider was also the Super Region 6 Champion at 149 and posted a record of 27-3 on the way to his second National Title. A redshirt junior, Rider has also been an NWCA Scholar All-American and was an All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team selection.

The NCAA Division II Wrestler of the Year will be announced in the coming weeks after a vote of the nation’s coaches.
