MARCH 2023 | RETIRED COACHES DIRECTOR’S REPORT

by Paul White, Retired Coaches Director

Greetings,

I hope some of you got to travel to Tulsa for the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Tournament. I have attended 38 times, and the level of wrestling gets better every year.

Really great to see so many of my coaching friends, active and retired. We have a large group present every year now from my home state of Georgia. Back in 1982, when I started going, only 4 or 5 coaches made the trip. Last weekend was packed with Georgia wrestling coaches, officials, and fans.

How about former President Donald Trump showing up and staying for the whole finals on Saturday.

It’s time to start making plans for the NWCA convention. The convention will be back in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, again this year. The date will be July 28-30. For more information, go to www.nwcaconvention.com. This is a great way to stay connected with the wrestling community and take a late summer vacation. The NWCA staff will be working hard to have sessions of interest for retired coaches, so come on down! I go every year and enjoy it.

We still have about half our states that do not have an NWCA Retired Scholastic Representative. The retired rep works with the men’s and women’s scholastic reps to promote NWCA initiatives and events. It is important to have your state represented. There is very little time involved, and it’s a great way to give back to wrestling. States without a rep are AK, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MA, MN, MT, NJ, NY, OK, RI, SD, TX, UT, WA, WY.

Please get in touch with if you are interested in this opportunity to make a difference.
