Hutchens Selected to Lead Men’s Wrestling Program

FROSTBURG, Md. – Director of Athletics Troy Dell has announced Josh Hutchens to lead Frostburg State’s men’s wrestling program after a national search.
The program was recently announced as one of FSU’s three new sports, along with women’s wrestling and women’s rugby.
On being hired, Hutchens stated, “I want to thank Troy Dell, (Assistant Athletic Director for Engagement) Nicole Higgins, and the hiring committee for selecting me to be Frostburg’s Head Men’s Wrestling Coach. I also want to thank all of the coaches and staff that took the time to meet with me during my interview. Throughout the interview process, it became clear to me that the culture at FSU matched my philosophy and that I wanted to be part of this community.”
Hutchens comes to Frostburg with a vast amount of coaching experience, most recently a seven-year stint as the head coach at Division II Ashland University. While at the helm of the Eagles’ program, he led the team to a record of 58-38 and had three NCAA Division II individual national champions. Ashland also finished as high as fifth place at the NCAA Division II Championships.
Along with the success Hutchens’ programs saw on the mats, his athletes have also succeeded in the classroom. Overall, he has coached 51 NWCA Scholar All-Americans and a CoSIDA Academic All-American. During his tenure, Hutchens has had over 100 Academic All-Conference selections.
Prior to Ashland, Hutchens coached at Division II Colorado School of Mines and Division I James Madison. As a student-athlete, he was a standout wrestler at Purdue, having been an NCAA Division I Qualifier and placing third at the Big Ten Championships.
