BRIEANA DELGADO HIRED AS FIRST CENTRAL METHODIST WOMEN’S WRESTLING COACH

FAYETTE, Mo. – Brieana Delgado may be new to building a wrestling program from the ground up, but she’s no stranger to knowing exactly what it takes to be successful on and off the mat.
The announcement of Delgado as the first head women’s wrestling coach at Central Methodist was made on Friday by Dr. Joe Parisi, Vice President for enrollment management at CMU. Parisi himself is a decorated former wrestling coach, with five NAIA national championships to his credit.
“At CMU, we expect our coaches to inspire student-athletes to strive for the very best in everything they do – during a match or tournament, in the classroom and out in the community,” said Parisi. “I have great hopes for Brieana Delgado and I am confident she understands our values of academic and athletic excellence, recognizing the very high bar set by CMU coaches. Brieana is a rising star in our business. She has the right skill set to be a great head coach.”
Delgado, a graduate of Oklahoma City University, brings a wealth of knowledge about the sport of women’s wrestling to Central Methodist. The four-time All-American has competed on some of the biggest stages in the sport to go along with her experience at the national level, winning two Fargo titles as a youth wrestler and earning bronze at the 2014 University World Championships.
Parisi added, “She is a very good communicator and has worked very hard to hone her craft. Brieana understands recruiting and athletic development and is very adept with all levels of women’s wrestling. She has tremendous people skills and there is no question in my mind that she is going to be a successful head coach.”
The South Carolina native comes to Central Methodist after serving as the head coach at Vista Murrieta High School. Prior to her time with the Broncos, Delgado served as the assistant women’s wrestling coach with her alma mater for two seasons, coaching 12 athletes to All-American status and guiding the team to back-to-back Top-10 finishes at the WCWA Championships.
“It means a lot to be the first, but more importantly we’re going to make it a memorable first year for the outstanding young women here at CMU,” said Delgado. “It is clear that Central Methodist is committed to becoming a top-notch program nationally and I am honored to help us get there.”
Delgado also spent two years with the Oklahoma National Wrestling Association as an assistant coach and women’s director for the OKUSA National team, coordinating practices and directing weight management for both the men’s and women’s programs. She also made a pit stop with the USA Wrestling World Team (U23) as an assistant coach at the 2017 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Campus officials made the announcement to add the program in February, committing to start both men’s wrestling and women’s wrestling in the fall of 2019. In addition, they announced a fundraising campaign to renovate one of CMU’s oldest and greatest buildings, Clingenpeel Hall, for one of the oldest and greatest sports.
