Boomer Fechko Named Head Coach of Lake Erie College Wrestling

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Lake Erie College Athletics announced today that Craig ‘Boomer’ Fechko has been officially named the next head coach of the Storm Wrestling program.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Fechko be the next leader of the Storm wrestling program, said Molly Hoffman, director of athletics at Lake Erie. “His experience across all levels of NCAA wrestling will bring a wealth of knowledge to our team. Boomer’s passion for wrestling is undeniable. I am excited to have him continue the traditions and success of the Storm wrestling team.”

For the past year, Fechko has been serving as the head wrestling recruiting coach for Next College Student Athlete. Prior to his work there, he was the assistant wrestling coach at Cleveland State from 2018-2021 and the assistant wrestling coach at Buffalo from 2015-2018.

During his final season with Cleveland State, Fechko helped guide the Vikings to two Mid-American Conference finalists, three National Qualifiers, third highest team GPA in the country (highest ever), recruited and brought in a Senior National Champion, a State Champion, and two nationally ranked wrestlers.

“I am extremely blessed for this opportunity provided to me by Athletic Director Molly Hoffman and the entire search committee, said Fechko. “I am excited to continue to build Lake Erie College Wrestling in all aspects.”

Fechko, a native of Broadview Heights, was an All-American and NCAA Championships qualifier for the University of Findlay and Heidelberg University during his collegiate career. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Heidelberg in 2009 and later completed his Master of Arts degree in educational policy and administration from Dakota Wesleyan in 2012.
